The King’s School Foundation was founded in 1984 against a background of the threat of integration as far as independent schools were concerned.

The initial aim of the Foundation was to build a substantial asset base that would help to promote the independence of King’s School ensuring the School is provided with the resources required for excellence.  View Latest Brochure

The predominant feature of the Foundation is that the capital raised must always remain sacrosanct; only the income can be used to support capital projects and initiatives, which the Board of Governors and Headmaster have asked the Foundation to support:

These are:

  • Staff Professional Development
  • The King’s School Foundation Scholarship Programmes, involving both external and internal scholarships.
  • The Endeavour Scholarship Programme

As at 31 December 2009, the Foundation has a Capital Fund close to $5M and since it was formed has made cash grants to the School totalling $3,179,811.

Currently investments total $4.3M and an Investment Committee, which reports directly to the Board of Management, constantly reviews the investment policy.

The long-term aim of the Foundation must be to be strong enough not to have a continuing dependence on State grants.

Since its inception the King’s School Foundation has always given strong support to the delivery of art at King’s School.

Over the years it has built up a significant Art Collection at a cost of $83,000. The current market value is well in excess of that figure.

The Foundation is delighted that this collection includes work produced by our two highly distinguished Old Boy Artists – Max Gimblett and Don Binney.

During 2004, the Foundation celebrated 20 years of achievement. The decision made by the Foundation Board of Management in 2005 to make a donation of $500,000 and extend a loan of $1.5 million to the Lighthouse and Sportsdome Project, is a very tangible way in which the Foundation pledges its continuing support to the Board of Governors, Headmaster and the School. The pledged $500,000 to the Lighthouse and Sportsdome Project is paid out of income and commenced in 2006 with completion in 2010.
